Minami-Shinmachi Beautiful Town Development Association
Since 2006, with the consent of landowners, the Minami-Shinmachi Beautiful Town Development Association has been working on restoring the neglected bamboo groves in Minami-Shinmachi. The thinned bamboo is turned into chips to improve the soil quality of the grove, contributing to environmental enhancement. Some of the thinned bamboo is used to make bamboo planters, which are planted with flowers and placed along the main roads, contributing to regional crime prevention. Within the bamboo grove, there are several large hackberry trees that provide a habitat for the endangered butterfly Sasakia charonda (Great Purple Emperor). The association, in partnership with local Sasayama Elementary School, is actively involved in the butterfly's breeding efforts. To allow visitors to experience the carefully maintained bamboo grove, a rest area has been set up to create a peaceful and relaxing space, offering what we call “Yuttarhythm.”
