Futamura Shrine Autumn Grand Festival
A Celebratory Autumn Tradition in Ajima: Praying for a Bountiful Harvest
The Autumn Grand Festival (Shuki Taisai) held at Futamura Shrine, located in the Ajima area of Tambasasayama City, was lively and vibrant amid the surrounding mountains just beginning to turn color.
The shrine grounds echoed with the sound of drums and flutes, adding to the festive atmosphere.
As they watched the ritual ceremonies unfold, visitors were immersed in the spirit of autumn and the long-standing traditions and culture passed down from generation to generation.
A Stunning Spectacle of Floats and Mikoshi Processions
The festival’s highlight is the grand procession of four floats (hikiyama) and six portable shrines (mikoshi) as they parade through the local villages and finally converge at the shrine’s main hall.
One by one, the mikoshi are carried up the long stone steps leading to the main shrine, creating a breathtaking scene.
The lively chants and the competitive energy of the teams moving the floats and mikoshi captivate spectators and bring excitement to the entire community.
A Community’s Passion, Connecting the Past to the Future
Residents who enjoyed the festival shared comments like,
