Kouzouji Temple

Kouzouji Temple was founded in the second year of the Taika Era (646) by the monk Hodo Sennin, who, upon seeing a bridge of clouds adorned with gold, silver, and precious gems over Mt. Kurozuho, named the mountain Houkyozan (Treasure Bridge Mountain). In recent years, Benzaiten, a deity of fortune, was enshrined in 1995 (Heisei 7) as part of the new Tanba Seven Gods of Good Fortune pilgrimage. The temple grounds, from the main gate to the main hall, are renowned for seasonal beauty: cherry blossoms in spring, hydrangeas in summer, autumn leaves in fall, and camellias in winter, making it celebrated as a “flower temple” throughout the year. Since 2013 (Heisei 25), Kouzouji, together with Bampo-ji and Daikoku-ji, has been known as one of the "Tambasasayama Three Mountains of Autumn Foliage," attracting many visitors in autumn.
